For many years, double bass player Kristof Roseeuw and accordeonist Philippe Thuriot have crossed paths. They toured as part of New York saxophonist Ellery Eskelin’s band and with René Lussier, the famed guitarist in Fred Frith’s quartet. They strolled together in the streets of Senegal and performed at the cultural opening of the Athens Olympic Games in 2004.
They’ve also played for the radioKUKAorkest, a quartet commissioned by KLARA to perform live music on Belgian radio.
Where there’s smoke, there’s fire and both musicians expressed a desire to create a band of their own. After a successful one-off collaboration between Roseew’s Too Noisy Fish and drummer Lionel Beuvens, the trio was born. The band saw its first public performance at a concert curated by stand-up comedian Wouter Deprez and was soon thereafter enthusiastically baptised “3Men in a BoaT”.
