Brosella XXS x Hello Summer
The 44th edition of the Brosella Festival, initially planned for July, was cancelled due to the pandemic.
But we succeeded instead to organize an adapted version of the festival, Brosella XXS, as part of Hello Summer. From 6 to 9 August, a limited audience joined us in our traditional magical green theatre at the foot of the Atomium, for a free mini-festival.
And the weeked after, music lovers thirsty for more gathered at the Cité administrative, at the Place du Congrès in Brussels, where we organized extra concerts with Hello Summer .
Under normal circumstances Brosella brings one weekend packed with folk on Saturday, and jazz on Sunday.
For this special XXS-edition embedded in the Brussels’ Hello Summer events, the concerts were spread over four days, and limited to the Théâtre de Verdure near the Atomium in Brussels. The maximum capacity was reduced to 200 people per session, as required by the sanitary measures. And of course, all other sanitation rules in force were applied with care: distancing, sanitary gel, wearing of face masks, disinfection etc.
Line-up: a bountiful, multicoloured, 100% Belgian program
This first edition of Brosella XXS left us with new unforgettable memories.
On Thursday, first Brussels Balkan Orchestra XS and then Emre Gültekin & Vardan Hovassian offered us an intoxicating musical journey. On Friday, we happily danced our distance-shake with Super Rumba and discovered the musical universe of Tom Theuns & Aurélie Dorzée.
The weekend, the Blue Mockingbirds took us on a journey with the rhythm of the Mississippi. This concert for parents and their kids was seasoned with the festive high-end visit of XXL2MUSIC (on stilts) and a wondering friendly pink gorilla.
On Saturday, we were in awe of Naïma Joris‘s moving voice and intimate performance. 3’AIN then sailed with us across the sea, with soft and melancholy sounds, influenced by the Middle-East. On Sunday, we witnessed a moment of grace with the solo performance of virtuoso pianist Bram De Looze and the captivating eclectic universe of the Pauline Leblond Trio.
The final touch? The world premiere of Opus 111, the most recent stroke of genius of the amazing gentlemen of Aka Moon. We couldn’t dream of a better ending.
And for music lovers still thirsting for more, we had an extra ace up our sleeve.
The following weekend, they could enjoy our extra contribution to Hello Summer at the Cité administrative in Brussels. Saturday there were concerts from Ani (Tropical DJipsies) Le Grand Mechant Loop (Giraffes & Penguins), Metx Diaspora Orchestra and Green Moon Trio. And Sunday followed Didi (Tropical DJipsies) Rebel Up SebCat, Rahona & Manuel Hermia and Commander Spoon.
Thank You XXL
We would like to thank you for your support despite the difficult times we’re all going through.
Brosella XXS was made possible thanks to our amazing artists, our fantastic volunteers, our partners and of course, our wonderful audience, adding its enthusiasm, kindness and loyalty! And naturally, we share a big ‘Thank You’ for their support to the City of Brussel, the Federation Wallonia-Brussels, the Brussels-Capital Region and the Flemish Community.
